Women's History Month: A Note from Dr. Dion Serben, Chapter President
March is Women’s History Month, and this year’s theme “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating and Inspiring Generations.” It reminds us that women continue to shape our nation through leadership, innovation, service, and mentorship.
Across our country, women have helped build and strengthen our communities in every field, from education, medicine, and public service to science, technology, and national defense. Their determination, resilience, and commitment to lifting others up have inspired generations and continue to expand opportunities for those who follow.
Women have also served with extraordinary courage and distinction throughout the United States military, breaking barriers and advancing the mission in every domain. Their leadership, sacrifice, and professionalism continue to strengthen our armed forces and our national security.
Here at Picatinny Arsenal, women contribute every day to the development, acquisition, and sustainment of the capabilities that protect our warfighters and our nation. Engineers, scientists, program managers, logisticians, service members, and civilian professionals all play a vital role in advancing innovation and ensuring readiness.
The Women in Defense Picatinny Chapter continues this legacy by fostering mentorship, education, and leadership development through our chapter meetings and community initiatives, from STEM outreach events that inspire the next generation to activities like Breast Cancer Awareness Month that strengthen support within our community. Every moment is a learning opportunity.
Let’s take this time to explore and learn more about the women who shaped our past and those shaping our future. Visit a women’s history museum, read a book or article, or simply have a conversation with a mother, grandmother, sister, colleague, or mentor within WID. Each story adds to our shared history. Together, we continue moving our history forward.
Thank you,
Dr. Dion Serben Chapter President
